Brian Kendrick reflects on the legacy of The Briscoe Brothers.
The Briscoes (Mark and Jay Briscoe) were one of the most renowned tag teams in recent memory. They were 13-time ROH World Tag Team Champions, and they also won the IMPACT World Tag Team Championship and the 2022 NWA Crockett Cup, among other accolades. Jay lost his life in a car accident on January 17, 2023. Since then, Mark has carried on in honor of his brother by wrestling for AEW and ROH.
During an interview with Armbars & Sidebars, Kendrick shared his thoughts on the legacy of Jay Briscoe and his tag team with Mark.
“At least out of the tragedy, if nothing else, then it solidified some sort of infamy, I don’t know if that’s the right word. Now, now there’s a legacy, right? It’s because the story is done, now we can say ‘Wow what a great story’ and now it will be the tale of how these guys were underappreciated. They got to have a few great matches towards the end, which is nice, but yeah, it’s going to be a sad tale of what could have been,” Kendrick said.
Kendrick went on to describe how it was remarkable that Mark and Jay remained a team for the duration of their careers. He noted that the duo will likely be studied, as they will go down in history for their remarkable list of accomplishments.
“They will now be sought after by wrestlers forever, and they should have been. As far as tag team wrestlers go, teams don’t stay together like that, that’s incredible. So, now they will go down, as they should have anyways, but I think this makes it without question that they’ll go down as guys that will be studied,” Kendrick said.
