Brian Cage: Taz Only Wanted To Work With Me Or Jeff Cobb

Brian Cage made an immediate impact in AEW, debuting at Double or Nothing and winning the Casino Ladder Match to earn a AEW World Title match.

Cage was not alone in his debut as he was introduced by Taz, who also serves as one of the commentary members in AEW.

Appearing on Vickie Guerrero’s Excuse Me podcast, Cage discussed the partnership with Taz.

“It’s been great. When they approached him about taking a manager role, it was said he would only want to do it with Jeff Cobb or myself. To be one of the people he wanted, rather than just managing me, was rad. I didn’t even take him into consideration. I knew he was a great commentator and could talk, but you think of him in ECW, you think of him suplexing everyone and Tazmission. You don’t really think of him as a great promo guy. Then, standing next to him and hearing this great promo, you’re like, ‘Oh yeah, he cuts a pretty good promo too.’ It’s just not the first thing you think of. ‘He’s a lot better than I remember.’ Ever since then, ideas and promos, it’s been great. It’s clicked very well and very fast,” he said.

AEW President Tony Khan previously revealed that he “kayfabed” Cage before his debut as he didn’t tell him what he would be doing or that he’d be working with Taz.

Elsewhere during the podcast, Cage discussed his final night at IMPACT when news broke that he had signed with AEW. You can find his full comments by clicking here.
