Brian Cage Talks About His FCW Release And Being Compared To Batista

Reigning X Division Champion Brian Cage sat down with Don Callis on a recent episode of Killing The Town.

During the interview, Cage talks about training with Chris Kanyon, how it led him to FCW, and the incident that got him released.

“I got the opportunity to go with (Chris) Kanyon to go to Deep South. I was uncontracted and did all the practices with all the signed guys and did all the house shows, all the live events, all at once and was part of everything. They got shut down and we moved to FCW with Steve Keirn.

“I went to FCW for year-and-a-half to two years before I got released due to bunk shenanigans. I got hurt in a match that was a really bad blown spot. Not to put down the other guy. He threw a kick to cut me off and it was two miles away, nothing I could do about, and for some reason I got released.”

At Slammiversary, Cage defeated Matt Sydal to capture the X Division title. He has been lauded for bringing back the “it’s not about weight limits, it’s about no limits” mantra of the X Division. A former body builder, Cage is billed at 268 lbs. Despite his size, his athleticism got him noticed.

“There’s still a lot that we haven’t done. I don’t like to even throw away flips and things I can do. I like to save that when that matters more. I realize I can get a lot more mileage out of that, not just throwing it away all the time. Even when I was coming up not this big people would be like ‘oh my God you’re just a jacked up Batista.’ Or whatever character they wanted to compare me to. Afterwards it would be like, ‘Holy crap I didn’t realize you could do that much’ As time progressed the more size I put on and the more ability I gained the more compliments I get is, ‘Oh my God, I’ve never seen a guy like you who can do what you can do.’”
