Bret Hart: I Was A Performance Artist
Performance artist vs. Pro wrestler.
The “pro wrestler vs. performance artist” debate has dominated wrestling Twitter in recent memory as the landscape of pro wrestling has changed over the years to cater to different fanbases. Appearing on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show, Bret Hart was asked about his favorite year as a wrestler and, perhaps unknowingly, inserted himself into the discussion.
“’92, when I won the WWE Title, was such a great year for me. That’s when I was probably in my best form. I think that’s when I believed I was actually, maybe for real the best wrestler in the world,” said Hart. “I always look at what I did as a pro wrestler more as; I was a performance artist. I’m very proud of all my performances. I think my matches are great stories. Most of the guys I worked with, when I talk with them, they always tell me that the greatest match they ever had was some match they had with me at a pay-per-view. It makes me feel really proud to know that I gave so many wrestlers their best matches. I’m very proud of my career, which is probably why I was so stubborn trying to protect it all the time.”
Bret is widely regarded as one of the greatest wrestlers of all-time, especially from an in-ring perspective.
