Braun Strowman Recalls Vince McMahon Telling Him He Wasn’t Ready To Be Champion In 2019 Meeting

Although 2020 has been kind to Braun Strowman as far as winning his first world title and holding it for months, 2019 was a completely different story.

The now-former Universal Champion recalled a meeting he had with Vince McMahon in January 2019, before the Royal Rumble event and being told by McMahon that Strowman was not ready to be champion. Strowman was unhappy with those comments as he said his goal is to be the greatest big man in WWE history and to be a WWE Champion.

The comments came as part of a sneak peek for an upcoming episode of WWE Chronicle that will air on the WWE Network.

“He gave me a really hard pill to swallow. Vince McMahon told me that it’s not my time yet, that he’s not ready for me to be a champion, that something isn’t right. I don’t know if it’s something I’ve done, if it’s something that I need to do. I have trust in Vince and that Vince is looking out for the company and my well being, but at the same time, hearing him say that it’s not my time. It fucking pisses me off. I want this more than anything else in the world. I want to cement myself in history as the greatest big man to ever do this. I will be WWE Universal Champion. I will be headlining WrestleMania. I will be a Hall of Famer. It’s not a matter of how, but when,” Strowman said.

Strowman’s 2019 saw him win the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal, but as far as championships are concerned, not much came out of that year. Strowman did end up winning the Intercontinental Championship earlier this year and then the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 36. At SummerSlam on August 23, Strowman dropped the Universal title to “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt. For full results of SummerSlam, click here.
