Braun Strowman On Not Being Universal Champion: “The Powers That Be Aren’t Ready”
Braun Strowman gives a guess as to why he hasn’t won a major singles title in WWE.
During a recent interview with Gorilla Position, Strowman was asked about why he thinks that he hasn’t yet won the Universal title despite being a constant presence at or near the top of WWE programming. Strowman admitted that perhaps “the powers that be” aren’t ready to put the strap on him just yet, but knows that there is a lot of planning and simply putting the belt on him isn’t as easy as 1-2-3.
“The powers that be aren’t ready for me [to be Universal champion]. One of the biggest things is that I’m running out of opponents; I’ve beat everybody. That’s the biggest thing, I feel like. Where we’re at right now, we’re trying to get some other guys more established because, let’s be for real, not everybody can match up to what I’ve done and what I’m capable of doing. So I feel like that’s part of the biggest thing just timing-wise, everything happens for a reason in this business. Everything that’s going on right now has literally been in works for a year, two years already. So we plan so far ahead,” Strowman said.
Now it doesn’t mean that Strowman hasn’t enjoyed some success while on RAW and SmackDown, having won the RAW Tag Team title and Money In The Bank just last year. As far as his character his really concerned, Strowman doesn’t believe he needs a world title at this moment, but would like represent WWE as the Universal champion one day.
“Honestly, as well, I don’t feel like where I’m at with my character I need a title. I get some, if not the, biggest reactions when I come out anywhere in the world with just me. A title, without a doubt, is what I want to hold. The Universal title is the most prestigious thing in the WWE. Absolutely, to represent the company in that way, but if I don’t need it, I don’t need it,” Strowman said.
Although Strowman may not have won a singles title yet, he could potentially become a champion in the coming days as WWE announced that he is facing AJ Styles for the United States Championship on the August 19 edition of Monday Night RAW.
