Brandi Rhodes Turned Down Opportunity To Delay Mixed Tag With Shaquille O’Neal And Jade Cargill
Brandi and Cody Rhodes were headed for a showdown with Shaquille O’Neal and Jade Cargill in March when Brandi announced her pregnancy.
As a result of her pregnancy, she wasn’t able to compete in the match despite her role in the build-up. Instead, Red Velvet took her place.
Speaking on The Hashtag Show, Brandi said there was an opportunity to delay the match, but she thought it needed to move forward.
“It was at the peak, the very beginning of an important match up that was going to happen in AEW involving Shaq. One thing that was said to me was, ‘We can wait, this match can wait until you’re back.’ It was very important to me that the match press on, with or without me. It was an opportunity for someone else to get in there and show what they can do. It’s stories like that, that you don’t hear. That I gave up an opportunity…I would have something great to come back to right now. A major thing to return and wrestle Shaq and Jade. Red Velvet got to wrestle that because I said, ‘let’s do this. I think it should be Red Velvet, I think she has what it takes.’ She showed up that and then from there you see her in the main event of Rampage. That is what it should be. Sometimes, you do have to look outside of yourself and make a wave for somebody else,” she said.
Jade & Shaq defeated Cody & Red in the bout with Shaq taking a table bump.
Elsewhere during the interview, Brandi discussed her goal of getting to the top of the AEW Women’s division. You can find her full comments by clicking here.
