Boston, Site Of WWE SummerSlam, Suspends Large-Scale Gatherings Through Labor Day
WWE’s planned trip to Boston for SummerSlam could be in jeopardy after Mayor Marty Walsh stated that he hopes events taking place in the next few months would reconsider staying in Boston.
Walsh tweeted that he plans to announce that all festivals and parades through early September will no longer take place as part of the city’s reopening due to the coronavirus pandemic. In addition, Walsh said that events that would attract large crowds should start looking at alternatives now as the city will not issue a permit for events before Labor Day (September 7) that could attract a large crowd.
How this ties into WWE is the fact that the company is planning to go to Boston for SummerSlam Week festivities in August. Boston’s TD Garden is set to host the August 21 episode of SmackDown, an unannounced NXT TakeOver on August 22, SummerSlam on August 23 and the August 24 episode of Raw.
All large-scale gatherings like parades and festivals, that are permitted by the City, are suspended through Labor Day.
In the interest of public health, no permit will be issued for an event before 9/7 that could draw a large crowd. https://t.co/Sm1J8sPmUb

I can announce that parades and festivals will not take place this summer in the City of Boston,
up to and including Labor Day on September 7.— Mayor Marty Walsh (@marty_walsh) May 8, 2020
For smaller events, we will be looking at them on a case-by-case basis as we move through the summer months.

WWE has yet to comment on the matter and SummerSlam events are still listed on the TD Garden’s official website. Fightful will keep you updated on the status of SummerSlam.
