On the March 11th edition of Monday Night RAW, a gauntlet match took place to decide who would be the one to face off with Intercontinental Champion Gunther at WrestleMania for the championship. Going into the match, fans were firmly behind Chad Gable to win the gauntlet and challenge The Ring General. However, Sami Zayn would turn out to win the matchup and wile many were happy to seee Zayn walk out with the victory, there were some fans upset Gable wasn’t the one win.
While speaking on a recent episode of his Hall Of Fame podcast, Booker T said Sami Zayn was upset by the fan reaction to his victory on last week’s RAW.
“I talked to Sami Zayn on Tuesday morning. We were flying to Orlando. We were sitting next to each other on the plane. Like you said, so many people were pulling for Chad Gable in that match. I said, ‘Sami, what a match. You’re going to look back on this one day and say that was the one that catapulted me to the next level. That was the one that put me in the light and let people see exactly what I can do.’ He was so, literally upset, about the online heat that he got from fans. He was like, ‘I thought the fans love me. Then I see all this stuff.’ I said, ‘You can’t listen to that white noise. You have to think how great that match was and you’re going to look back one day and say that was some really great work.’ He was still feeling like he let someone down just because the fans didn’t think the match was as good as I thought it was. I thought it was excellent.”
Elsewhere on the most recent edition of his podcast, Booker hinted at a confrontation with CM Punk backstage at last Tuesday’s edition of NXT. Fightful Select provided a full report on reactions to this claim.
