Booker T Reveals Sid Vicious Recruited Harlem Heat Into WCW
We can thank Sycho Sid for the next stage in the career of Booker T.
Booker T and Stevie Ray, eventually known as Harlem Heat, got their start in the Global Wrestling Federation in their home city of Houston, Texas. However, they’re mostly known for their time in WCW where they captured the WCW Tag Team Championship on numerous occasions.
The duo began their journey in the summer of 1993 and was quickly elevated to the main event of the Fall Brawl pay-per-view where they entered the WarGames structure alongside Big Van Vader and Sid Vicious.
Speaking on his A&E Biography, Booker T revealed that it was actually Sid Vicious who contacted Harlem Heat about coming into WCW.
“My brother and I, we had regular jobs, and we worked in the Global Wrestling Federation one night a week, and we did that for 18 months straight,” said Booker T. “We were getting ready to work one night and the phone rang and ‘Maniac’ Mike Davis came in and said, ‘Hey, man. Sid Vicious wants to talk to you guys.”
Booker added,” One of the greatest companies in the world, and we had a great spot.”
Booker T also revealed that he got the custom look for their flame shirts from the band, Brooks & Dunn, and the hats were actually made from the shirts, they were the cut-off sleeves from the shirts.
Booker T is one of the very few people along with Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Paul Wight, and Randy Savage who captured both the WCW and WWE World Championships while working for the respective companies.
Booker T is a two-time WWE Hall of Famer. He was inducted as a solo performer in 2013 and went in with his brother, Stevie Ray in 2019.
