Booker T: I Think Ric Flair May Be Looking At One Last In-Ring Run
Booker T speculates on what the future holds for Ric Flair.
On August 3, 2021, Ric Flair obtained his release from WWE. Speaking on his The Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T commented on what The Nature Boy could do next, noting that he doesn’t see him as a manager or office type. Despite his age and health concerns, Booker T believes that if it was up to Flair, he would be getting back in the ring. Here is what he said:
“My thing is this, and I’m going to let you take this into the break, Ric Flair is not the managerial type of guy. It’s just not his role. As well as, Ric Flair is not one of your guys that wants to be in the office, coming to work every day, wearing a suit and going into the office. That’s not Ric Flair. Ric Flair’s a party guy. That’s just his nature. You saw him on Triller, he’s all about having some fun. Now my thing is this, I talk to Ric Flair on a regular — usually on a regular occasion, I don’t know how often I’m going to see him now, but Ric Flair told me, he said, ‘Book, I’m never going to retire.’ He said, ‘If I could be in that ring right now, that’s where I’d be.’ So I think Ric Flair may be looking at one last run.”
Though he may be looking at one last run, Booker acknowledges the various obstacles that stand in the way of that happening.
Flair hasn’t wrestled since 2011 but has been used in various onscreen roles in WWE since rejoining the company in 2012. Most recently, he was involved in a storyline with Lacey Evans and Charlotte Flair in January and February, but the angle was dropped when Evans became pregnant and was removed from television. Charlotte ended up sending her dad home as a result.
