Bobby Lashley: I Told Vince McMahon ‘I’m Glad It Took Me This Long To Win The WWE Title’
On the March 1 episode of WWE Raw, Bobby Lashley finally reached the top of the mountain when he defeated The Miz to win the WWE Championship.
Lashley made his WWE debut in 2005 and despite his impressive physique and amateur background, never gained the WWE Championship during his first run with the company, which lasted until 2008. After ten years away from WWE, Lashley was featured as a top star in IMPACT Wrestling, leading to increased excitement when he returned to WWE in 2018.
It still took Lashley three more years to gain the World Title, but he wouldn’t change that time for anything. Except maybe the perks of being champion.
“It does (make it more special),” Lashley told Justin Kinner on the Justin Kinner Show when asked about winning the WWE Title so late in his career. “I enjoy the wait. Of course, I would have wanted it sooner because of all the perks that come with it. Champions make a little extra money and get extra things. I just flew on a private jet to Raw. Those are the things you get as WWE Champion and I wish I would have had it before. At the same time, winning it, and I even told this to Vince [McMahon], ‘I’m glad it took me this long to win it.'”
Lashley is set to defend his WWE Title at WrestleMania 37 against Drew McIntyre.
Fightful will have live coverage of WWE Raw beginning at 8 p.m. ET on Monday.
