Big Show Reveals Why He Wasn’t At Greatest Royal Rumble, New Three Year WWE Contract

Big Show won't be leaving WWE anytime soon, injuries or contracts be damned.

The former WWE, WCW, World Heavyweight and ECW World Champion has been off of WWE TV since a brutal beating in a cage match by Braun Strowman last year. However, it was a hip injury that actually sidelined him. When speaking to Stone Cold Steve Austin on his podcast this week, Show revealed that he had to go in for a second surgery as well, after an infection around the surgical wound hardened.

"I started freaking out, thinking 'here we go again.' They ended up cutting it open and exercising the hard infection. Then we did an open wound infection, which was all superficial. I have a hole in my leg on a Monday and I have to call Vince and have to say 'I can't go, I have a 3.5 cm hole in my leg right now and I probably shouldn't travel with it, especially out of the country," said Show.

The second surgery would inevitably keep him out of the Greatest Royal Rumble in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. Show recalled having to contact Vince McMahon and Triple H (Paul Levesque) a couple of times as his injury played hokey pokey with his ability to work the event.

"To Vince and Paul's credit, after about four days it started closing up real quick and I said 'I can go if you want me to go,' and Paul says 'Why risk it? There's plenty of time, we're going back. It's not worth risking our investment in you.'"

As revealed in Fightful's contract expiration article, Big Show admitted that he was without a WWE contract briefly earlier this year. However, he has since signed a new three-year deal, which has him with WWE into the spring of 2021.
