Big E Says Serious Has Been ‘Done To Death’ In WWE, Wants To Bring Something New To The Brand

As the world continues to harp on Big E’s demeanor inside of the squared circle, Big E says he’s ready to bring something fresh to the long and storied history of WWE.

Since July 24, 2020, Big E has embarked on a singles journey in WWE. Most recently, he picked up a quick roll-up victory over Sheamus on the August 21 episode of Friday Night SmackDown and in weeks prior, he’s defeated both The Miz and John Morrison in singles action with the new addition to his moveset, the Stretch Muffler submission.

In the debut episode of newly revitalized Talking Smack, which was hosted by The Miz and Kayla Braxton, Miz would be very endearing in his words towards Big E before returning to the major sticking point of Big E not taking his time in the ring more seriously now that he is embarking on a singles journey.

This first became a major talking point when Booker T suggested on his podcast that it was time for E to take his time in the ring with a more serious approach. Since then, Xavier Woods has responded to this by saying that part of the magic of New Day is how they got to where they are today by not listening to others.

On Talking Smack, Big E would say that he’s ready to bring something fresh to WWE and that being too serious all the time has been done to death.

“It’s so done to death,” E began. “Was I not serious in the match with Sheamus? Was I not serious? When the time calls for it, I’m serious. But to come out here to be serious and to be someone I’m not, I’m going to sink or swim on my own merits. I’m going to be myself whether people like it or they don’t. I want to bring something new and original to WWE. I want my path to be one where it’s not like, ‘he didn’t try to be John Cena Lite. He didn’t try to be Roman Reigns Lite, he was himself from the beginning.’ Why would I change? If people think I’ve been worthy of a WWE world title opportunity for all these years and I’ve been a goofball for all these years now, why am I suddenly serious on this path to becoming a world champion or whatever the singles path is? Why does that make any sense at all?”

Big E continued, “When the time comes when I’m in the ring, I will deliver. That is my goal to deliver, to give you my very best, but to be stoic for no reason, I did that. I was stoic. I came out here with no personality for years when people didn’t care. I worked hard for little to no reaction. I’ve done that path. I’ve gone down that path. Now I’m going to be myself. I’m going to be free. I’m going to forge my own path. I’m not going to try to be like anyone else. I’m not going to follow anybody. But all that matters is when the bell rings, can I get it done? I think I get it done.”
