Ben Carter Says Wrestling Video Games Inspired Him To Try New Moves
Video games seem to progressively influence each generation of wrestlers more as they go on. Ben Carter is no different.
The 2020 breakout star Carter has quickly progressed inside the ring and become one of the premier names on the independent scene. He credits some of his progression to trying out moves that came from WWE video games
“Pretty much every single year I’d go through all the moves in the WWE games and literally just have my phone out, go through each and every single one and if I see one that I like and I can realistically do that I want to try it, I go, “Okay, let me quickly record this so I can try it in training the next day.” So, I’ve literally got a folder in my phone of like moves and all of them are pretty much motion capped things from the WWE games,” Carter told Fightful.
Not only did Carter get inspired by the games, he encouraged some of his contemporaries to get motivated from them!
“That thing is such a cool tool to use,” Carter said. “It’s literally perfect for an aspiring wrestler. So, when people at school, will sometimes be in training and be like, “I just don’t know what moves to do.” I’m like, “Dude, have you ever played the WWE games? Do you have the WWE games? Because if you don’t, there’s Youtube videos. If you do, just go through and see which ones you like.'”
Carter is a fan of wrestling games over the last 13 years, but readily admits they just aren’t quite what they used to be.
“I would say the wrestling games, the standard of them, has dropped in recent years, but I’ve always been a huge wrestling gaming dude. From [Smackdown! Versus RAW] 2007 onwards. 1000%,” Carter said.
