Becky Lynch Wanted To Make Her Fans Proud In WrestleMania 36 Match Against Shayna Baszler
Becky Lynch remained “The Man” at WrestleMania 36, defeating Shayna Baszler to retain the Raw Women’s Championship. The hard-hitting and fast-paced affair came to a conclusion when Lynch reversed the Kirifuda Clutch, rolling into Baszler to secure the pinfall.
Appearing on ESPN’s SportsCenter on Sunday morning, Lynch discussed her win.
“Two down, two to go,” Lynch said in reference to beating two of the four MMA Horsewomen. “It’s one thing to get to the top of the mountain, it’s one thing to do it once, but Shayna is impeccable. She has a pedigree that goes back to being a top ranked cagefight for ten years straight. She’s a pioneer in women’s MMA, she was the longest-reigning combined NXT Women’s Champion, and a lot of people said I couldn’t do it, especially now that I’ve held on to the title for a year. I think the question came up, was I hungry enough? Did I have enough to overcome these obstacles? I proved that I did. Last night was one of the most important matches for me, especially in this time. I know I’ve gotten to where I am because of my fans. Without them being there, I wanted to make them proud.”
Lynch was then asked about wrestling in front of no fans as WrestleMania 36 was held at the Performance Center.
“It’s no secret that I run off the energy off the crowd. Their support lifts me up and I become a superhuman. It was ‘how do I find that superhuman energy without them there?’ The good thing is, I came from the independent circuit, so I was wrestling in little school halls around Ireland since I was 15 years old in front of seven people. Sometimes you’re better off with no people because you can hear every word in the crowd and I wasn’t as good as I was now. I wasn’t the champ, I wasn’t The Man,” she said.
Lynch is coming up on one year as the Raw Women’s Champion after capturing the belt in the main event of WrestleMania 35.
