Becky Lynch Says There Wasn’t A Match That Made Her Want To Get Into Wrestling, ‘I Just Wanted To Get Fit’

Becky Lynch just wanted to get fit.

Becky Lynch started her wrestling career at a young age, going to wrestling school when she was a teenager. Lynch worked various independents before having to take seven years away from the business due to an injury.

In 2013, she signed with NXT, and through the ups and downs, has made history in WWE.

Speaking to Steve Fall with WrestlingNewsCo, Lynch was asked if there was a match that made her want to become a wrestler.

“That’s not how I became a professional wrestler. I just was looking to get fit. I was a fan of wrestling, but there was no match that made me think…. When I started wrestling, I didn’t think that I could be a professional wrestler. I was just doing it as a way to get in shape and that’s how I started. Because even thinking that I could have done it felt like way too far of a dream. So I just started to just exercise. I thought, because I love wrestling, that will be a fun way to exercise because all the wrestlers are in great shape. So if they’re in great shape and I do that, then I’ll be in great shape. Obviously it worked out. It worked out, you know, in the long run. It changed my whole life, but it wasn’t, it wasn’t from watching a match that i was like, ‘oh, I want to do this’, I was just a fan. I didn’t think I could do it,” she said.

Lynch has inspired a generation with her success in WWE, where she’s won gold across all three brands and was the first woman to win in the main event of WrestleMania.

Lynch is set to challenge Rhea Ripley for the WWE Women’s World Championship at WrestleMania 40.

Elsewhere during the interview, Lynch discussed the impact of Bray Wyatt. You can find her full comments by clicking here.
