Becky Lynch Says She Knew Charlotte Flair Would ‘Purposely Disrespect Me’ During Title Swap
Becky Lynch had a lot to say about Charlotte Flair.
On the October 22 episode of WWE SmackDown, Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair had a title swap that didn’t exactly go as planned.
Mike Johnson at PWInsider reported Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair got into a “heated confrontation” backstage following the WWE Women’s Title swap to close SmackDown with “loud words being exchanged” but no physicality.
Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp noted, “There were disagreements with how the segment was going to go, they hadn’t planned on the belt being thrown down, and there were some words exchanged backstage.”
Speaking to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Becky Lynch gave her side of the story.
“There was a plan in place that was supposed to go one way and if it went one way, everyone would have had a moment and it would have been great. I, in the back, said, ‘this isn’t going to happen, she’s going to do something else.’ She did exactly what I said she was going to do. Sometimes things can happen out there and people can get carried away in the moment, but I knew she was going to purposefully disrespect me, so I processed it a lot quicker and was able to hold it together until I got backstage and then I lost it a little. I lost it. Verbally. I had to do a dark match after, so I verbally lost it. I didn’t have time to scrap in the back,” she said.
Becky noted that people were talked to, but she believes she was right.
“At the end of the day, it wasn’t about me. It was about Sasha (Banks) and her getting into something. ‘What was the need for it? This is stupid.’ We need to go out there and be able to trust each other. We need to trust that one person will do what they said they’re going to do,” she said.
Sasha Banks appeared after the title swap to confront Charlotte.
When asked if other wrestlers took her side backstage, Becky replied, “Other wrestlers? Other members of the crew. There’s been a lot of patting on the back. Some people don’t feel like they can stand up.”
Becky previously noted that things were difficult with Charlotte. Charlotte addressed the comment by telling BT Sport, “Is it because I’m a woman and have done it all and we have a smaller division? Charlotte is difficult? Because I stand up for what I believe in? That makes me difficult? If I was a man, I’d have big balls. I know how good I am. Man or woman, I am the best.”
Becky responded to the clip on social media.
No one on our roster acts like this, man or woman. Gender ain’t the issue here. https://t.co/YtbiZLVvrr

She offered further response to Helwani, noting it wasn’t about gender, “it’s because you’re an asshole.”
When asked if she had reservations working with Charlotte, Becky replied, “I also like money and this is money. People are interested and I love that people are interested and they don’t know how this is going to go. I don’t know how this is going to go. I don’t know if this is going to be an all out brawl and venom behind every move or if we can get to the match or if there will be a fight backstage. I don’t know what’s going to happen. That’s exciting for me, probably nerve-racking for the office. “
Becky and Charlotte are set to collide at WWE Survivor Series.
The two enemies used to be best friends. Becky has her take on where things went wrong.
“My star was rising. We were the best of friends and it all worked when she was on top and I was below. We could all see the way things were going in 2019 and people were really rallying behind me and this turn would put me in a different league and I don’t think she could take that and hasn’t been able to take it. I think it’s affected her work, even now. She is potentially one of the greatest, but I’m so in her head that she’s lost it a bit and has lost a step. She’s got that jealously and that little devil on her shoulder. That devil is me always being one step ahead of her and she doesn’t like that. She thought her birthright was that she is the star. Doesn’t matter that I started wrestling when I was 15 and left home and traveled the world to chase the dream. It doesn’t matter that I wasn’t one of the chosen ones. She was born into this and she deserves it. I think that’s her thinking and we know where she gets that thinking from and she hasn’t been able to take it,” she said.
She also said she believes the “Becky” chants during her segments, “piss her off so much. I love it. She gave the crowd the finger and said it was because they were disrespecting Rhea. She don’t care about Rhea. It was her own ego.”
