Becky Lynch: Rousey vs. Charlotte Would Have Been The Most Boring WM Main Event In History
Becky Lynch knows the WrestleMania main event needed her.
One year ago, Becky Lynch was on the WrestleMania pre-show in the Women’s Battle Royal. Meanwhile, Ronda Rousey was making her professional debut in a high profile match and Charlotte Flair was ending Asuka’s undefeated streak. Shortly after WrestleMania 34, the idea of Charlotte vs. Rousey at WrestleMania 35 began being batted around.
Becky wasn’t feeling it.
“I remember someone saying last year that Charlotte vs. Ronda might be the main event, and I thought … ‘Over my dead body,’” Lynch told the Orlando Sentinel. “It started when I slapped the head off Charlotte. If I didn’t do that, if it was just Charlotte and Ronda, it would have been the most boring WrestleMania main event in history, and maybe not even the main event. Can you imagine? It needed me. The match needed me.”
Charlotte vs. Rousey ended up happening at Survivor Series 2018, but the match wasn’t the main event. In fact, it wasn’t supposed to take place at that point at all. Lynch was scheduled to face Rousey at Survivor Series, but a concussion put her on the sidelines.
“Looking back, if I don’t get concussed, I’m main eventing a different show, and we have to listen to Charlotte and Ronda whine all winter long, and I’m not in the main event of WrestleMania. So that’s the perfect ending.”
As announced Monday on Raw, the triple threat bout between Rousey, Lynch and Flair is a “Winner Take All” bout with both the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Titles on the line.
