Becky Lynch On Ronda Rousey Match: The Idea Was ‘Give It More Build, Possibly Do It At WM 39’
Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey have been on a collision course since Survivor Series 2018 when they were originally scheduled to meet, but the match fell through as Lynch suffered a facial fracture and concussion on the final Raw before Survivor Series.
The two battled in the main event of WrestleMania 35, but the bout was a triple threat match with Charlotte Flair in the mix.
After winning the women’s Royal Rumble, Rousey had her choice between Raw Women’s Champion Lynch and SmackDown Women’s Champion Flair as her WrestleMania 38 opponent. She went with Flair.
Speaking to Joseph Staszewski of the New York Post, Lynch was asked when she could finally face Rousey in singles competition.
“I think the idea was, let’s give it even more of a build and possibly do this in Hollywood [at WrestleMania 39] of all places. I think the idea was to give it a little bit of extra time, and hell, let frickin’ Ronda get her feet wet. We had to tell this story with Bianca, too. So was I surprised? No, not entirely, not really. I think they thought of Hollywood as maybe being the spot for where this match would go down. My talent, my skill, my ability to communicate has gotten me to the top. So I don’t care what your name is, you’re behind me right now. It was that attitude that started this whole thing and then obviously we were supposed to have that Survivor Series match and my face got busted open and we never had that one-on-one match. So maybe, we’ll have it next year. Maybe something else will happen. I’m not worried. I am the name right now.” she said.
Lynch will defend her Raw Women’s Championship against Bianca Belair at WrestleMania 38 while Rousey faces Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
Both bouts are set to take place on WrestleMania Saturday. Fans can check out the current lineup for the show by clicking here.
