Becky Lynch: My Goal Is To Make The Women’s Titles The Most Relevant Titles In WWE
With two titles comes great responsibility.
Becky Lynch has already made history. She did that at WrestleMania 35 when she defeated Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair in the main event to capture both the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Titles. Now, she’s looking to do more.
Speaking to PEOPLE, Lynch revealed her desire to make the Women’s Titles the most important belts in the company.
“Now I have two giant targets on my back, and I know that everybody’s going to be trying to take me down and pay your due. The goal now is to make these titles the most talked about ones in all of WWE,” Lynch says. “It’s to make these [women’s titles] the most relevant titles in all of WWE. So that’s double duty, and it’s one thing to get to the mountain top, but it’s a whole another thing to stay there. And now I’m going to have a lot of people trying to knock me off.”
Lynch is currently appearing on both Raw and SmackDown as the double champion. She will soon be defending the Raw Women’s Title against Lacey Evans, who is “first in line” after defeating Natalya on Raw.
On the subject of earning the main event spot at WrestleMania, Lynch said, “I think now that we’ve proven that anything is possible, it just doesn’t matter about gender anymore, it just matters about ability, it matters about heart, it matters about caring about this business, and being passionate, and being good. Now anyone can be the main event of WrestleMania it’s not necessarily just have to be a man. The main event is up for grabs by everybody now. I think that gives you a lot of hope for not just the women we have here at WWE and the roster but also the fans and the future female stars of WWE.”
In the same interview, Lynch discussed going through depression when she was forced to retire in 2006. You can view previous comments she made about her time away, and how it “felt like death,” by clicking here.
