Becky Lynch Felt She Had To Win Every Twitter War
Becky Lynch talks Twitter and more.
In the lead up to WrestleMania 35, Becky Lynch stole headline after headline with her social media game, which featured zingers, photoshops, and brutal takedowns. Lynch used Twitter to her advantage, not only as a way to put herself into the spotlight but to build interest in her WrestleMania 35 bout against Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair as well.
“I think that social media, especially when I was coming up through the ranks, I was trying to get my message across, I also used it to drum up interest in my matches,” Becky told Muscle & Fitness. “Especially in the run-up to WrestlingMnaia, I kinda used it as almost a political campaign. Like, ‘elect me into the main event of WrestleMania, people.’ And just try to appeal to as many people as I possibly could. With every war that I had on Twitter, I felt that I had to win it.”
Lynch ascended to the top of the mountain at WrestleMania 35 when she defeated Rousey and Flair to win the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Championships. While she lost the SmackDown Women’s Title a month later at WWE Money in the Bank, she remains the Raw Women’s Champion.
“It’s a lot of pressure. You’ve got a lot of people trying to knock you off the top spot. It’s one thing to climb to the top. Usually, you’re on here the chase, but once you get there, you’re living in the victory. So it’s about maintaining that and always pushing the boundaries, always going forward, always making sure that everybody is stepping up their game. It means that you are the face of the company, it means you’re the best of the best. I was right to step out and do my own thing and declare that I was the best. Everything I’ve said I would do, I have done.”
Though she is the Raw Women’s Champion, Lynch is eligible to be drafted on Friday’s episode of SmackDown.
Fightful will have live coverage of SmackDown beginning Friday, Oct. 4 at 8 p.m. ET.
