Bayley Shares That Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch & Charlotte Flair Felt Bad For Her After 2015 Call-Up
Bayley discusses her fellow Four Horsewomen being called up to the main roster without her.
WWE’s Four Horsewomen, Sasha Banks, Bayley, Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch have all found success in the WWE — winning multiple championships and being a part of several ‘first time ever’ matches respectively. Sasha Banks has gone on to become a 4-time RAW Women’s Champion along with being one-half of the first WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions with Bayley. Charlotte Flair is closing in on her two-time Hall Of Fame father’s title win record, Becky Lynch is the current RAW Women’s Champion and Bayley is the SmackDown Women’s Champion.
Flair, Banks and Becky had a year-jump on Bayley in regards to main roster experience as they were called up from NXT. Bayley heard rumblings about the three of them heading to the main roster without her and she spoke about how that made her feel at ACE Comic Con as a part of an interview hosted by Lilian Garcia.
“So there was a lot. So I heard rumblings of them going and I was not, and I was like, ‘Oh no, what did I do wrong?’ I had just broken my hand and I was like, ‘Is this holding me back?’ But I was still able to wrestle with my cast on so that couldn’t have been it. I thought of every possible thing I could’ve done wrong. But I remember the night of, they all texted me separately, and they just felt so bad and I hated that. They didn’t like that I wasn’t there and I didn’t want them to feel like that in their debut and I know they didn’t but, I don’t know. We just had a connection.” She said. “So I sat on my couch and I watched it happen and, you know, you kind of have mixed feelings like, ‘Dang dude, I wish I could be there’ but more than anything, I was just so happy to see them being there and I knew once they were there, that everything was gonna change, and I knew they were gonna make my path a lot easier like, ‘Okay, you guys get the work started and then when I get there, it’ll be a little bit easier for me. At least I’ll have friends when I get there’.”
That 2015-2016 year that Bayley was in NXT, she was able to have a run with the NXT Women’s Championship, had a highly praised match with Sasha Banks at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn and was able to defend her Women’s Championship against Asuka at TakeOver: Dallas.
“But now, definitely looking back, I think that year in NXT by myself without them, I had nobody to run to, I had nobody to rely on, I had a brand new roster and I became the NXT Women’s Champion so that was the biggest year of my career.” Bayley expressed. “I learned so much about myself. I learned so much more in the ring. I was able to kind of take more of a leadership role, and travel the world — that’s when NXT started going to the U.K. and started going every where for the first time and I was doing it as the Women’s Champion so that was amazing. I had so many of the girls’ first matches there. I taught Lacey Evans how to do a headlock takeover and now look at her. Things like that, where I was a part of everybody’s first little thing so, I definitely missed them and it was so, so hard but I don’t think I would be the person that I am now or the performer that I am now if I didn’t have that year by myself but I had nobody to rely on except myself, and then when I got there, you know, Sasha said, ‘Here, let me show you everything’ and I was like, ‘Ok, cool’. They took care of me and I was very grateful.” Bayley concluded.
