Baron Black Recalls Last Minute Venue Change For TERMINUS 2, Finding A Home At Oasis
On June 12, Battle Slam will return to the Oasis Event Center in Atlanta, GA with Fight For ATL.
The first Battle Slam event was held on April 24, also at Oasis, which came as a result of Baron Black’s relationship with the venue through TERMINUS 2.
TERMINUS 1 was held at Salvation Army Kroc Atlanta in Atlanta, Georgia, but the promotion moved to the Oasis Event Center for the second TERMINUS event. The decision to move was not something Black had planned.
“I just stumbled upon that venue,” Black told Fightful’s The Spotlight when discussing the Oasis Event Center. “I had that venue down because the goal was always to try and run multiple venues and be spread around the success in the world of TERMINUS and Battle Slam. I had that venue on the list. TERMINUS 2 was book at a different venue and some problems occurred with that venue. We ran into problems with the venue a week and a half before TERMINUS 2. You can just imagine, me pulling out my hair, and rushing to find another venue. I looked back at my list and said, ‘Oh, these guys were interested before, let me see what it’s like.’ I called them up, he was open, I said, ‘I’ll take it, can I just do a walkthrough’ because I had seen it five months prior. They actually did upgrades in that time. When I went there, I was like, ‘holy shit. Ya’ll upgraded everything in here. This is awesome. I think we’re going to stay here.’ The owner wanted to hear that because a lot of people are still recovering from the pandemic and he was like, ‘Whatever day ya’ll want, just let me know,’ and the rest is history. Now we’re just at Oasis. Unfortunate that it happened that way with the other venue, but things happened for a reason.“
When asked if it was Jonathan Gresham’s fault for the original venue falling through, Black laughed before commenting, “I would love to blame it on him and his lack of paying attention, tech-wise, but it was nobody’s fault but the venue we were dealing with before. It was a nerve-racking thing because we had a whole show set, booked, everything, and we had to find another building within ten days, but I pulled it off.”
On Tuesday, it was announced that Battle Slam Fight For ATL would stream live on FITE TV. Fans can check out the current lineup for the show by clicking here.
The full interview with Black will air on Thursday’s episode of The Spotlight at 9:30 a.m. ET.
