In recent years, Bandido established himself as one of the most buzzworthy competitors on the independent scene, and he rose up the ladder in Ring of Honor. Bandido won the ROH World Championship at ROH Best in the World 2021, and he was one of the promotion’s top stars until they went on hiatus following Final Battle Battle 2021. He wrestled at ROH Supercard of Honor XV in April 2022 after Tony Khan acquired the company, and he made his AEW debut in September, when he faced Chris Jericho on the September 28 episode of AEW Dynamite.
Bandido subsequently signed with AEW, and he has competed on multiple episodes of AEW TV since then. However, he recently revealed that he still hopes to work for WWE someday.
Speaking with SO CATCH by Hal 2 in an interview that was recorded before he signed with AEW, Bandido looked back on his debut match with the company and emphasized that it was a great night.
“I think that is a very important and fantastic night for me. AEW is like a dream to, to my life. When I took a match against Chris Jericho, that was fantastic. Fantastic match, fantastic night, everything was amazing. I really, really enjoyed [it],” Bandido said.
The former ROH World Champion went on to describe how the opportunity came about in a fairly short manner, as AEW called him on a Sunday ahead of the show on Wednesday.
When asked whether he had any interest in going to WWE, Bandido made it clear that he would like to do so at some point. He recalled how WWE previously invited him to the WWE Performance Center, and the company even gave him a Camaro so he could get around. Bandido also recalled how he saw Chris Hero at the Performance Center.
“At some point, I would like to go to WWE. Not in this moment, but I hope after… later. I was in WWE, they invited me to the Performance Center. They gave me a Camaro all that week to drive. That was amazing. I made good amigos. Chris Hero, I saw him in the Performance Center, and now he’s a really, really good friend. I love you, amigo. He’s very nice,” Bandido said.
Bandido last wrestled for AEW on the January 18 episode of AEW Dynamite; there, he lost to Bryan Danielson. Since then, Bandido has wrestled for AAA and GCW, among other promotions.
