Authors of Pain Return During NXT Tapings, Crashing Main Event Match
The Authors of Pain are back and ready to wreck shop again in NXT.
During the NXT tapings at Full Sail University, Fightful managing editor Sean Ross Sapp was in attendance and tweeted out pictures of the Authors of Pain making a run in during a match involving current NXT Tag Team Champions Sanity. As a result of the Authors of Pain's interference, the match ended in disqualification.
The match Sanity was competing in was against the recently formed group of Kyle O'Reilly, Adam Cole and Bobby Fish. The former Ring of Honor stars ran as the Authors of Pain hit the ring, leaving the tag champions to catch the beatdown.
The Authors of Pain have not appeared on NXT television since losing the NXT Tag Titles to Sanity at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III. The Authors of Pain won the NXT titles for the first time when they defeated Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa in the main event of NXT TakeOver: Chicago.
The duo, managed by legendary wrestling manager Paul Ellering, has had about as good a run a tag team could ask for in NXT. Aside from being undefeated for nearly two years and winning the tag titles, the Authors of Pain also won the 2016 edition of the Dusty Rhodes Classic, when they defeated TM-61. Speaking of TM-61, the duo also made their NXT return at the tapings after Shane Thorne spent the majority of the year recovering from knee surgery.
