Amir Jordan Talks Quitting His Job As A Banker; Did Not Expect Wrestling To Become His Full-Time Job

The “Bhangra Bad Boy” took a leap of faith and bet on himself.

There are many professional wrestlers who’ve told their individual stories about how they’ve stepped away from their day jobs to bet on themselves and pursue a career in wrestling. The next addition to those stories came by way of NXT UK’s Amir Jordan. Amir Jordan made his first appearance for the WWE as a part of the second United Kingdom Championship tournament and is also a part of the NXT UK brand on-which he has formed a team with Kenny Williams.

At the recent NXT UK television tapings, the NXT UK Tag Team Champions Zack Gibson and James Drake stated that Williams and Jordan earned a shot at the tag titles. That was almost not in the cards for Amir Jordan had he not stepped away from his job as an investment banker in London to pursue his dream of becoming a wrestler. Jordan spoke more about that while chatting with ‘Examiner Live’ to promote NXT UK’s forthcoming shows in Glasgow, Plymouth and at the Download Festival.

“At the time it wasn’t a career choice, where I was thinking about giving up my job. Wrestling’s not exactly the career where you can make a lot of money, especially as an independent starting out. It was a bit of a transition, with me thinking let me see how I end up doing with this stuff and then make a decision. But it was never in my mind that it would become my full time job, to where we are today. I always wanted to try my hand at wrestling so I started training while I was still in my job in London. That’s when I saved my money up, quit my job, and spent six months out there,” he said. “I was living off savings, I wasn’t making much money. It was a massive gamble. My family were a bit worried and I can’t blame them to be honest. But I was 24 and I thought if I don’t do this now it’ll be too late. Most people that get into WWE start much earlier at 17, 18 years old. I didn’t have the time, I wanted to crack on and cram as much learning as I could.”

Fellow NXT UK star Eddie Dennis also told the story of leaving his job as a headmaster in England and to read his recount of that, check out Fightful’s published article on the topic.
