Alberto & Lashley Say Their Match Will Be “A Thousand Times Better” Than Brock vs Joe
Alberto El Patron has set the bar mighty high for his main event against Bobby Lashley at the Impact Wrestling Slammiversary pay-per-view this Sunday.
Specifically, Alberto thinks their match will blow away what Brock Lesnar and Samoa Joe will do in the headline bout at the next WWE pay-per-view, Great Balls Of Fire.
“Our match is going to be a thousand times better,” Patron told Sports Illustrated in a recent installment of its "Extra Mustard" feature. “I have deep respect for Brock Lesnar and Samoa Joe, and I know they’ll give the fans an amazing match, but they’ll be limited by the politics in that company. That company won’t let one of them give one-hundred percent to the audience, they’re going to hold them back. Impact Wrestling says, ‘Here is the ring, go do your thing.’ ”
Lashley, speaking in the same piece, echoed his opponent's thoughts.
"They’ll have a good match, but it won’t be anything like ours,” he said. “It just can’t be. Alberto and I are going to have an incredible match.”
The match between Lashley and Alberto will be a title unification match; Lashley is the current TNA World Champ, while Alberto holds the Global Force Wrestling Heavyweight Title. Global Force Wrestling was the brainchild of Jeff Jarrett, TNA co-founder who has incorporated that brand into Impact telecasts since returning to TNA to oversee creative earlier this year. Earlier this week, it was announced that Impact officially had purchased Global Force Wrestling.
Both Lashley and Alberto have prior experience in MMA — and Alberto promised they would deliver a hard-hitting affair at Slammiversary.
"We’re going to go the extra mile," Alberto said. "We’re not afraid, and that’s just the way we were brought up in the business. If I punch him extra hard, and he kicks me extremely hard, then we’re OK with that–that’s part of what we want to offer to the audience.”
Each wrestler will have a special cornerman. Dos Caras, lucha libre legend and the father of Alberto El Patron, will be in his son's corner. Meanwhile, Bellator light heavyweight King Mo will be cornering Lashley.
