AJ Styles: We Made A New Title Cause Roman Reigns Holds Them All, How Can You Argue It Isn’t Secondary?

AJ Styles is prepared to reestablish himself as the workhorse of WWE and addresses the controversy of needing to create a new World Championship.

AJ Styles is going to take on Seth Rollins at WWE Night of Champions to crown a new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. This new champion is being created exclusively for Monday Night Raw as Roman Reigns has been drafted to SmackDown with the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

Speaking with New York Post, Styles addressed whether or not he feels that the new championship should be considered secondary, saying that it’s hard to argue otherwise considering the circumstances surrounding the creation of the belt.

“Is it a secondary?” Styles said in a Zoom interview. “Well if the Raw championship is held by Roman, the SmackDown championship is held by Roman, then how can you argue that it’s not? We had to make a new championship because Roman holds them all. What happens if he decides to wrestle for the World Heavyweight championship? It is what it is, and we got what we got. If we make the best of it, and if and when Roman does challenge [for it], we beat the brakes off of him, whomever it might be, then we’ll see what title’s secondary.”

While AJ Styles looks forward to proving that he is a workhorse and working every show, he also says he doesn’t begrudge Roman Reigns for his schedule and even admits he would do it too.

“This is what you want to do. This is what you want to be,” Styles said. “This is what you’re trying to get to in your career. I’m not mad at him. I told him, ‘If I could do it, I would, but I’m not Roman Reigns.’ ”
