AJ Styles Pitched Triple H WrestleMania Match In Previous Years
AJ Styles reflects on never getting to have a match with Shawn Michaels or Triple H and looks ahead to the future where he may be the dream match for an up-and-coming Superstar.
AJ Styles was once considered to be part of the list of superstars that would never make it to WWE. However, since joining the company in 2016, he has had many dream matches including a classic series with John Cena, matches with Randy Orton, and the final match, or so it seems, that The Undertaker will ever have, the Boneyard match at WrestleMania 36.
One person that AJ Styles wanted to coax out of retirement but was unsuccessful in obtaining a match against is Shawn Michaels. while Shawn Michaels did come out of retirement for one match in 2018, AJ Styles knows that he will never get a one-on-one match with The Heartbreak Kid, at least not in the United States.
During a recent interview with Sean Ross Sapp, he spoke about the missed opportunity for a match with him and Shawn Michaels.
“Well, I mean, I don’t know what he got paid to go to Crown Jewel, but I’m sure it was pretty good because he came back for that one last match,” he said. “I know he didn’t want to, but it’s hard to turn down cash sometimes. He still loves it. There’s no doubt about that. But he was in good hands or he thought he was until he was in that match. I understand, but I knew I wasn’t gonna get him for sure. Definitely not for in the States. Nah. It’s not gonna happen.”
Asked about any potential future opponents, AJ Styles said that the last dream match he attempted to secure was against Triple H, but unfortunately, that never came to pass. Now, AJ looks to the next generation of competitors and wonders if he is the person that they are all lining up to face.
“Well, the last person I tried was Triple H,” said Styles. “I didn’t get him. I don’t know who the next guy is or if there will be another one. Now we’ve got the younger talent coming up. Maybe I’m the match that they would like to have. I would like to have some good ones before I retire. Who knows? I don’t know who’s going to be next. None of us do. We’ll just have to see what happens.”
Recently, AJ Styles did spend some time on WWE NXT 2.0, engaging in a brief Feud with Grayson Waller. Recently, he revealed that was his idea. Learn more here.
AJ Styles was also recently wrapped up in another dream feud, one against Edge. AJ Styles has yet to secure a victory over the WWE Hall of Famer, having come up short at WrestleMania 38 and at WrestleMania Backlash.
Speaking about his rivalry with Edge, prior to their first encounter, AJ said he was very excited about finally getting the chance.
“I believe in early March that we’re like, ‘I think it’s actually gonna happen.’ ‘Cause we don’t believe anything until it does when you’ve been in the business for a while. Yeah, man. I’m excited about it,” he said.
Moving away from the talk about dream matches and talking about a move that he hasn’t done in a long time, The Spiral Tap, AJ Styles tells Sean Ross Sapp that he isn’t sure he will be able to do it anymore because it’s been so long since he had actually pulled out the move.
“I gotta be honest with you, I haven’t done that in so many years I don’t know if I’ll be able to do it. I can’t even remember. It’s one of those things, if you don’t use it, you’ll lose it. This is one of them,” AJ explained
