AJ Styles Didn’t Initially Like Chris Sabin Because He Saw How Good He Was, Had To Check His Ego

AJ Styles clears up why he didn’t initially like Chris Sabin.

During an interview with Chris Van Vliet, the topic of AJ Styles came up. Sabin noted that AJ didn’t really like him at first and he didn’t want to learn from someone who didn’t like him. When asked why AJ didn’t like him, Sabin didn’t really know, saying “you’d have to ask AJ.”

A fan asked AJ on his Twitch stream about Sabin’s comments and he cleared things up.

“I thought I’d seen something where Chris Sabin said something about me not liking him. I’m assuming he means the story where, this kid comes in and he’s awesome. I was like, ‘I don’t really know if I like this guy.’ Then I was like, ‘wait a minute, I know what’s going on here. You don’t like him because you’re afraid he’s going to take your spot. That’s how good he is.’ So then I was like, nope, I’m not going to do that, I’m not going to be that guy who doesn’t like someone because someone else is working hard to get where they want to be. That was the problem I had with Chris Sabin, is that he was good and I had to check my ego because that was a stupid thing to not like someone for,” said AJ.

Both men noted on their respective platforms that they don’t really keep in touch anymore.

AJ and Sabin worked together in TNA/IMPACT from 2003 when Sabin joined the company to 2013 when Styles left. Sabin is now back in IMPACT and is one-half of the Tag Team Champions while Styles serves as the Intercontinental Champion in WWE.
