AJ was quick to respond and apologize for these tweets saying that he has since matured and understands the weight of his platform and the weight of making light of such sensitive matters.
I was 18…. I never thought my words would have consequences… I was watching Comedy Central and I thought this joke was funny.
As a 25 almost 26 year old adult, I know this is genuinely fucked up. I regret saying this, and I apologize…. I’m a matured adult now…. https://t.co/liCwukYgbS

And I know as an ADULT that those comments were horrendously wrong. I don’t make the same comments now for that reason. I was a teenager, I lived my life and learned that shit is NOT right! https://t.co/6UrjCnUkKK

In the wake of his apology, promotions such as Synergy Wrestling and Paradigm Pro Wrestling have released statements standing by AJ saying that they understand he made a mistake when he was younger but he has since shown growth and change.
AJ Gray worked for our company, owned and operated by an openly gay man, 6 days ago. He did so with class and integrity, and was a pleasure to have in our locker room.
It was obvious that today, in 2020, AJ holds no ill will or bias towards the LGBTQAI+ community.

When he was a teenager, AJ Gray made some regrettable & offensive comments. We do not condone these remarks.
However, these comments do not represent AJ as an adult. AJ has performed on many PPW events, and been nothing but a professional & locker room leader.
