AEW Power Rankings – Week 32: Dark Order Trade Rumors, Hikaru Shida Suspended
Ahead of Saturday’s pay-per-view event, AEW officials had mixed thoughts on Wednesday’s show.
The circumstances caused a re-shuffling in recent weeks, though overall, they are pleased with how things are going into Double or Nothing. But they felt Wednesday could have gone better for a physical standpoint and many came away banged up, leaving some Saturday plans in doubt.
AEW Power Rankings – Week 33
1. Britt Baker & Nyla Rose
There is a legitimate concern for Britt Baker, who suffered what appeared to be a knee injury during the match. Baker didn’t want to team with Rose, feeling it wasn’t a good idea to team with the champion when that is who she was chasing. But Britt agreed to the match in hopes of getting an early start on Statlander’s teeth before their match on Saturday.
Rose impressed officials by defeating both Shida & Statlander with Baker sidelined. Everyone knows how talented Rose is, it’s been her attitude that has caused issues in the past. The attitude remains a problem, but officials have little choice but to put up with it due to her performance.
2. Fenix
Everyone was worried about Fenix after a rough-looking spot following the match, but I can confirm that he is fine and will be ready for action on Saturday. The devastating offense of Orange Cassidy did more damage to Fenix than any post-match incident. However, Fenix did email AEW officials on Thursday morning saying he is “slightly annoyed” over the botched spot. He was given a bonus and has now been upgraded to “pleased.”
3. Matt Hardy
Hardy was happy with his victory but knows there is work to be done. Since coming to AEW, Hardy has been praised for his work ethic and always thinking outside the box when it comes to his training.
4. MJF
If you think MJF was surprised by Marko Stunt, think again. “He didn’t catch me off guard. I knew everything he was going to do. Anything he did to me, I let him do it. I’ve been out of the ring for a long time. I needed to get the ring rust off, take a couple of hits to really feel myself, so I can destroy his little jungle buddy this weekend. You think I’m worried about an oversized Hornswoggle? I literally ate a steak bigger than him before this interview. Now, get out of my face.”
5. Jon Moxley
Moxley simply wanted to destroy someone before facing Brodie Lee on Saturday. Officials were not worried about an upset and Moxley was not looking past 10, either. He wanted to send a message to Lee. Mission accomplished.
6. Hangman Page & The Young Bucks
Page remains distant from the rest of The Elite. Because he respects social distancing. He still feels like the outcast and can’t believe Kenny Omega would team with various partners while he remained at home. Page will be there for his buddies at work, but wants to be left alone otherwise.7
7. Jake Roberts & Arn Anderson
Arn is a master motivator. Jake is a master manipulator. It’s two contrasting coaching styles leading two contrasting wrestlers. Roberts & Anderson are two of the best to ever hold a clipboard and their legacies will be on the line this Saturday. Roberts feels supremely confident, believing Cody is broken mentally and hasn’t been the same since MJF turned on him. Arn has worked diligently to get Cody’s in the best shape of his life. Cody can’t challenge for the World Title. If he loses the opportunity to become the first-ever TNT Champion and can’t avenge his brother, where does that leave him? Arn has had a tough task getting Cody ready but he believes in his man. Jake, on the other hand, feels like he’s playing with house money. Archer has looked nearly unstoppable and he wants to put an end to Cody’s career on Saturday. Overconfidence is certainly an issue, but this is where the brilliance of Roberts shines as he uses that confidence as fuel rather than trying to reign him in.
8. Orange Cassidy
Orange Cassidy didn’t care if he won or lost. But he’s pissed he got hit in the dick.
9. Hikaru Shida & Kris Statlander
There is no bad blood between Shida and Statlander despite the loss. Both women have the same goal in mind and know they will meet down the road. They were hoping for a better outcome, especially after Baker was taken out, but no blame was passed. Shida has been fined for her post-match actions and suspended for the rest of 2018.
10. 10
10 has been regulated to the bench. Trade rumors are swirling as Mr. Brodie Lee was not happy that 10 couldn’t even soften up Moxley. There’s not much value in 10, but Lee is hoping to get future considerations. If no offer materializes, he will be placed on waivers.
11. Sammy Guevara
Nothing really changes with Guevara. All the talent in the world, but can’t buy that signature win or win consistently.
12. Marko Stunt
Stunt thought he was catching MJF at the right time with MJF coming off the injured list. But Stunt hasn’t gotten the best training during quarantine and his skills weren’t as sharp. Stunt knows he’s a work in progress and that his size will hold him back. But he maintains he’ll outwork everyone and given time and proper training, he believes he can beat anyone in the sport.
