AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam (9/20/23) Results: MJF vs. Samoa Joe, Eddie Kingston Goes For ROH Gold

AEW hosted its latest episode of AEW Dynamite on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, live from Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, NY. 

This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite is the annual Grand Slam episode from Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, NY. The show will be headlined by MJF defending the World Championship against Samoa Joe. Also, Eddie Kingston looks to become the new Ring of Honor World Champion as he takes on Claudio Castagnoli in a highly anticipated bout. 

Additionally, Chris Jericho takes on Sammy Guevara, Saraya battles Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World Championship, and Jon Moxley defends his AEW International Championship against a vengeance-seeking Rey Fenix.

AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam (9/20/23) Results

* ROH World Championship vs. NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship: Eddie Kingston (c) def. Claudio Castagnoli (c) 

– Adam Cole visited Roderick Strong in the hospital. The Kingdom leaves and says they need to become the next Ring of Honor Tag Team Championship number one contender. Adam Cole also abandons Roddy again because he needs to go beat by Maxwell Jacob Friedman’s side. 

– Christian Cage wants a 3-Way Match with Darby Allin and Luchasaurus on Saturday Collision for the TNT Title. Should Darby accept, Sting cannot be at ringside. 

* Chris Jericho def. Sammy Guevara

– After the match, Jericho extends his hand, and Guevara embraces him. Guevara kicks Jericho below the belt and shoves him up and down in a full-fledged WWE WrestleMania 19 reenactment of Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho. Don Callis emerges and approaches Guevara. They are leaving together.

– In the parking lot, MJF and Adam Cole arrive. MJF sends Samoa Joe an angry message in which he threatens to choke him out. Cole goes away after receiving a call from Roderick Strong.

– Sammy Guevara and Don Callis run into Daniel Garcia backstage. Callis informs Guevara that “this kid is money” in order to avoid an escalation. On Rampage, Guevara and Callis will justify their actions.

* AEW International Championship: Rey Fenix def. Jon Moxley (c)

– Moxley was clearly rocked by a tope that occurred before the opening bell rang and was checked on by a doctor after the match.

– A video package reveals that several teams will battle for a crack at the ROH World Tag Team Championship on AEW Rampage.

* AEW Women’s World Championship: Saraya (c) def. Toni Storm

* AEW World Championship: MJF (c) def. Samoa Joe

– Adam Cole appears and encourages MJF on while Max is stuck in a Rear Naked Choke. MJF fights back and breaks free from the grip. MJF attempts a sleeper, but Joe forces him into a corner. The referee is thrown out of the ring, and MJF chokes Joe with his wrist tape. As Joe goes under, the referee calls for the bell.
