AEW Dynamite (8/17) Results: CM Punk Speaks, 2 Out Of 3 Falls Match, Young Bucks In Elite Trios Bout

- AEW World Trios Tournament Tournament First Round: Young Bucks & ??? vs. Andrade El Idolo, RUSH, and Dragon Lee
- 2 Out Of 3 Falls: Bryan Danielson vs. Daniel Garcia
- We hear from CM Punk
- KiLynn King vs. Toni Storm
- Gunn Club (Austin and Colten Gunn) vs. Varsity Blonds (Brian Pillman Jr. and Griff Garrison)
– CM Punk started the show by offering Hangman Page a title match. Page did not show up and CM Punk moved on to verbally attacking Jon Moxley, calling him the third-best guy in his group, a theme throughout his career, and saying that he’s the second best Jo(h)n he will beat for a championship in Chicago. Jon Moxley came down and both men would trade verbal barbs before engaging in a pull-apart brawl.
2 Out Of 3 Falls: Bryan Danielson vs. Daniel Garcia
Ricky Steamboat is the special guest timekeeper for this one and Chris Jericho is a special guest commentator.
The match starts out heavy with both men striking each other. Garcia quickly got the advantage utilizing maneuvers such as a back suplex on the outside of the ring. Garcia got the first fall utilizing a Dragon Sleeper. He would capitalize on the momentum and DDT Danielson on the concrete shortly after. This busted Danielson open. Danielson would eventually bust Garcia open by slamming his head on the square steel post. Danielson would get a quick second fall victim by rolling up Garcia.
The last fall was a little more back and forth with Danielson being more in control than he had been throughout the entire match. Eventually, he would stomp on Garcia’s head and get the victory with the LeBell lock.
Winner: Bryan Danielson, 2-1 falls.
– After the match, Bryan Danielson offered to shake Daniel Garcia’s hand. Chris Jericho attacked Bryan Danielson from behind before anything could happen but Garcia decided to pull Chris Jericho off of Bryan.
– Private Party, Keith Lee, and Swerve Strickland had a backstage segment hyping their Tag Team Championship match this Friday.
– Tony Nese appeared to be coming down for a match when he was taken down by Jon Moxley, who called out CM Punk again, and they were once again forced to be pulled apart.
– Chris Jericho says that next week he wants to have a talk with Daniel Garcia, so he can choose sides officially.
The Varsity Blondes vs. The Gunn Club
Colten Gunn dominates Brian Pillman and then drops Griff Garrison with his finisher for the victory.
– After the match, Billy Gunn says he’s proud of his kids. Stokely Hathaway comes out, The Gunn Club officially turn on their father. The Acclaimed save Billy Gunn and scissor with Daddy Ass.
Winners: The Gunn Club by pinfall.
– Death Triangle cut a promo backstage and PAC says he’s looking forward to getting in the ring with Will Ospreay.
– Jungle Boy challenges Christian Cage to a match at AEW All Out, Christian says no. They brawl. Christian gets his head bashed into the steel steps.
FTR and Wardlow are talking backstage. They say no one messes with The Pinnacle. Next week, Dax faces Jay Lethal.
Kilynn King vs. Toni Storm
In the end, Toni nails a German Suplex, and she follows with Sweet Cheeks Music, and then a pendulum DDT to score the win.
Winner: Toni Storm by pinfall.
– The unification championship match will take place next week.
– To the surprise of no-one, Kenny Omega is the partner of the Young Bucks. Michael Nakazawa and Don Callis are with him.
AEW World Trios Tournament Tournament First Round: Young Bucks & Kenny Omega vs. Andrade El Idolo, RUSH, and Dragon Lee
Kenny, throughout the whole match, was playing up his multiple injuries and had difficulty performing his normal offense. In the end, he was able to struggle his way through a One-Winged Angel to get the victory. After the match, Andrade and RUSH attack Dragon Lee, who took the pin. Andrade hit a Hammer Lock DDT on Lee and his mask fell off in the process.
Winners: The Young Bucks & Kenny Omega by pinfall.
