AEW Dynamite (4/17/24) Results: Jon Moxley Returns, The Elite Compete, Samoa Joe Will Speak, More

AEW hosted its latest episode of AEW Dynamite on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. 

This week’s episode is the final AEW Dynamite ahead of the inaugural AEW Dynasty pay-per-view on April 21. 

This week’s episode features appearances by Samoa Joe and Swerve Strickland ahead of their AEW World Title match on Sunday. Also, Jon Moxley returns to AEW as the brand-new IWGP World Champion. 

Kazuchika Okada, Mathew & Nicholas Jackson, Adam Copeland, and more will be in action.

  • Adam Copeland & Willow Nightingale vs. House Of Black (Julia Hart & Brody King)

  • Chris Jericho brokers a meeting with HOOK and Taz

AEW Dynamite (4/17/24) Results

– Jon Moxley kicked off the show talking about his IWGP World Heavyweight Championship victory. He spoke about how people didn’t believe this would be possible 5 years ago and challenged Powerhouse Hobbs to meet him in the main event of next week’s Dynamite from Jacksonville.  He insists that Don Callis is feeding his family lies.

* House Of Black (Julia Hart & Brody King) def. Adam Copeland & Willow Nightingale

– Willow was shown attacked backstage and the bulk of this match was a 2-On-1 scenario against Copeland. Nightingale eventually gets to the ring but she gets knocked out by a chain wrapped around in the fist of Julia Hart, who puts her in the Rings of Saturn for the victory. The Beatdown continued after the match but Mercedes Mone came out to run off Julia and Brody. There was a moment of tension between Mercedes and Willow but Copeland seemed to quell that. 

– Samoa Joe has a sit-down interview with Renee Paquette

– The Elite cut promos on their respective opponents at AEW Dynasty while they were next to Tony Khan on headsets. 

* The Elite (Kazuchika Okada & Matthew & Nicholas Jackson) def. PAC, Daniel Garcia, Penta El Zero Miedo

– Chris Jericho has his meeting with Taz and HOOK. Jericho essentially runs down HOOK saying that he’s not as good as he thinks he is. Has keeps trying to interject to keep the peace but Jericho is focused on himself. Jericho says he wants HOOK to level up and breathe the rarefied air of Jericho. HOOK lets Chris Jericho know that he doesn’t need him. Jericho pushes Taz to the ground. HOOK threatens Jericho and says that he will show him how serious he is anytime Jericho wants.

– Renee Paquette has a sit-down interview with Swerve Strickland when she asks him what makes him so confident that he will beat Samoa Joe and become AEW World Champion, he says he will tell Samoa Joe that answer in the ring later tonight.

* Deonna Purrazzo def. Mariah May 

– After the match, Toni Storm and Mariah May jump Purrazzo. Thunder Rosa makes the save and knocks out Storm, she and Purrazzo get physical. Storm and Mariah May takes out Deonna, allowing Rosa to smear lipstick on the face of Storm. 

– Jay White & The Gunns (Austin & Colten Gunn) are being interviewed by Renee Paquette and challenge Billy Gunn & The Acclaimed (Max Caster & Anthony Bowens) to a Winner Take All match for the AEW World Trios Championship and the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship at AEW Dynasty. The Acclaimed would go on to cut a promo accepting the match. Max Caster & Anthony Bowens also challenge Austin & Colten Gubb to a match on AEW Saturday Collision. 

* Orange Cassidy def. Shane Taylor 

– Shane Taylor Promotions’ Lee Moriarty & Anthony Ogogo hit the ring and they attack Cassidy. Matt Sydal and Christopher Daniels try to make the save but Trent Beretta appears and attacks them with a steel chair to make sure that Cassidy can still continue getting his ass kicked. 

– A vignette hypes Roderick Strong def. Kyle O’Reilly for the AEW International Title at AEW Dynasty. 

* Will Ospreay def. Claudio Castagnoli

– Swerve Strickland calls out Samoa Joe comes out. Strickland takes out the security that was in between them. They brawl. Joe gets the upper hand but Swerve comes back and Joe leaves Strickland laying after a Muscle Buster.
