Adam Copeland: There’s A Finality To An ‘I Quit’ Match, I Can’t Wait To Feel The Energy From The Crowd
Adam Copeland is ready to turn the page in AEW.
Since signing with the company in October 2023, Copeland has been engaged in a heated feud with his long-time tag team partner, Christian Cage. Copeland and Cage will have their third singles match, an ‘I Quit’ match, on the March 20 episode of AEW Dynamite, which will take place in Toronto, Canada.
Before coming to AEW, Copeland had his final WWE match in Toronto, where he bested Sheamus in a singles match.
“I genuinely didn’t know if the match against Sheamus in Toronto was going to be my last match.” Copeland said while speaking to Sports Illustrated for a new interview. “Getting home, letting the emotion wash away, and talking with the girls about my next decision led me to where we are now. I’m wrestling Christian in our hometown, and it feels like this is where our 40 years have led us.”
Copeland went on to note that there’s a finality to an ‘I Quit’ match and that he’s looking forward to feeling the energy from the crowd.
“With an ‘I Quit’ match, there is a finality to it. We’re going to go out and feel the audience, react, and take chances. When you watch Christian, he’s such an asshole, I can’t wait to feel the energy from the crowd. It’s a real story, and that adds a different twist. This is our third match in AEW, and there is a lot of special meaning in this one. When I made the decision to continue wrestling, I came back for a match like this.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Copeland talked about Mercedes Mone arriving in AEW. Fans can learn more here.
As always, Fightful will have full coverage of AEW Dynamite as it airs, beginning at 8 p.m. EST.
