Soho And Nightingale Win Bloody Battle, Gunther Retains | WWE SD x AEW Recap

Here is your fight size update for WWE Friday Night SmackDown and AEW Rampage on Friday, January 13.

WWE SmackDown

Gunther defended the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Braun Strowman. Gunther targeted Strowman’s wounded arm, but the powerhouse kept fighting. The two titans battled it out, but in the end, Gunther stacked up Strowman and pinned him to retain the gold.

– Paul Heyman told Sami Zayn that he’d have to beat Kevin Owens by himself, and Zayn vowed to take care of the problem on his own. In the main event, Zayn and Owens competed in a hard-fought bout, but it was ruined by the arrival of The Usos and Solo Sikoa. The trio attacked Owens and left him lying to end the show.

Tegan Nox defeated Xia Li and gained momentum as the Royal Rumble continues to draw near.

Bray Wyatt came to the ring and sat in a rocking chair. He stated that he he remembered who he is, and he is the Eater of Worlds. He then said the Royal Rumble will be his true rebirth.

– Rey Mysterio came to the ring. He described how Dominik tried to ruin his Christmas and how he’s walking around like he’s a thug. Rey said he’s fed up with Dominik, and he wants a fresh start. With that in mind, Rey declared for the Royal Rumble before Karrion Kross interrupted. Kross brought up the way Mysterio won the Royal Rumble 17 years ago. He then accused Rey of not being around when Dominik was a kid. Kross then wondered whether Rey hated Dominik or himself for not raising his son to grow up like him. Rey then took the fight to Kross, but thanks to a distraction from Scarlett, Kross choked Rey out.

– Emma, Maxxine Dupri, and Liv Morgan were backstage. Emma and Dupri were critical of Morgan’s decision to enter the Royal Rumble first. Raquel Rodriguez joined the conversation and doubted Morgan’s ability to last the whole match due to her size. Morgan slapped her and challenged her to a match. They then clashed in a singles bout, and Rodriguez scored the win.

– In a vignette, the Viking Raiders and Valhalla sent a message to Drew McIntyre and Sheamus. Backstage, Sheamus made it clear that he wanted to face The Usos, whereas McIntyre wanted to battle the Viking Raiders (Erik & Ivar) instead. They argued, and Adam Pearce solved the problem by noting that a tag team tournament will begin next week. The winners will earn a shot at the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship, McIntyre and Sheamus will face the Viking Raiders in the first round.

– In a WWE Digital Exclusive, Tegan Nox discussed her win over Xia Li and stated that she’ll keep taking care of business if anyone steps up to her.

Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens will sign the contract for their title match next week.

– Sonya Deville made it clear that she wanted another shot at SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair. She took matters into her own hands by attacking the champion backstage, and the two women brawled.

Karrion Kross will face Rey Mysterio on the January 27 episode of WWE SmackDown.

– In a WWE Digital Exclusive, Liv Morgan described how she proved her point by throwing Raquel Rodriguez over the top rope.

AEW Rampage

– In the main event, Ruby Soho and Willow Nightingale defeated Tay Melo and Anna Jay A.S. in a bloody, chaotic Street Fight. Nightingale took Jay out with a powerbomb. In the end, Soho scored the win with the Destination Unknown onto some thumbtacks.

– Darby Allin defeated Juice Robinson to retain the TNT Championship. Allin celebrated with Sting after the bout.

– The Acclaimed (Max Caster & Anthony Bowens) came out, and Caster delivered his latest rap. The Gunns (Austin & Colten Gunn) interrupted and stated that the AEW World Tag Team Champions are only popular because they sole Billy Gunn from them. The Acclaimed then pantsed The Gunns. 

-The Kings of the Black Throne (Malakai Black & Brody King) defeated Eddie Kingston and Ortiz. Kingston and Ortiz struggled to coexist throughout the bout. Ortiz begged for a tag at one point, and Kingston refused to listen. In the closing moments, Kingston was about to hit Julia Hart, but Ortiz stopped him. They argued, and Black capitalized by hitting Kingston with the Black Mass for the win.

– Powerhouse Hobbs discussed the next chapter in the Book of Hobbs. He noted that the phoenix may have risen from the ashes, but he broke its neck.

Daniel Garcia will face Action Andretti next week on AEW Rampage.

– Paul Walter Hauser discussed his love for wrestling, and Danhausen interrupted him, hoping to get his Golden Globe Award. Jeff Jarrett, Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, and Satnam Singh came to the ring, and Hauser insulted Jarrett until the veteran and his allies attacked him. Jarrett smashed Hauser with his guitar. The Best Friends (Trent Beretta, Chuck Taylor & Orange Cassidy) made the save, but Lethal and Dutt stole Hauser’s award.

– Swerve Strickland promised that Mogul Affiliates will be the most violent, gruesome group in all of wrestling.

– Backstage, TBS Champion Jade Cargill brushed off her conflict with Red Velvet. Leila Grey noted that Cargill will get her 50th win without Red Velvet.

– Lethal, Dutt, Jarrett, and Singh gave an “acceptance speech” after they stole the Golden Globe Award.
