MJF On Cody Rhodes Leaving AEW: I Hope He Finds Happiness And I Hope He Makes A Boatload Of Money
Maxwell Jacob Friedman comments on Cody Rhodes leaving AEW.
MJF and Cody Rhodes were once the best of friends and later became the most bitter of rivals. Maxwell Jacob Friedman and Cody Rhodes had a match at Revolution 2020 that would turn out to be the only singles match they would ever have.
Cody Rhodes and MJF would stay away from each other for the next two years and Cody actually would leave All Elite Wrestling, the company he helped launch, on February 15, 2022.
Speaking to Ariel Helwani, Maxwell Jacob Friedman actually offered kind words to Cody Rhodes saying that he hopes whatever he does next, he makes a boatload of money.
“I wish him the best of luck, I really do,” said Max. “I hope he finds happiness, and I hope he makes a boatload of money. Have we had our issues in the past? Absolutely. Do I love him as a human being? Maybe not. But I respect him as a businessman. Look, this is the same guy who I whipped several times as I watched his wife cry and weep. I’m not saying we’re buddies, you know, I’m not saying I like the guy, but what I am saying is I respect what he’s doing as a businessman, and quite frankly, by 2024, if people have an issue with me leaving to go make real money, then me and him are going to be fighting on the same exact island.”
Asked if you were surprised by the move, Maxwell Jacob Friedman said he was not surprised to see AEW let Cody go because they have such a strong roster as it is.
“No, I’m not surprised. Because we have so many weapons and we have so many top guys in our promotion, the wheel’s just gonna keep on turning. Now, was Cody Rhodes a big weapon in our arsenal? Absolutely. That’s why I look forward to seeing what he, as a weapon, does for the rest of his career.”
Cody Rhodes reportedly signed with WWE and will be factored into WrestleMania week in some capacity. Learn more here.
Tony Khan recently stated that he wanted to keep Cody Rhodes on board for more years than his contract rollover allowed. Learn more here.
