Tony Khan Says He Wanted To Reach A Longer Deal With Cody Rhodes Beyond Option Years

Tony Khan remains grateful for what Cody and Brandi Rhodes did for All Elite Wrestling.

Cody and Brandi Rhodes left AEW on February 15, 2022. As part of the foundation for what AEW has grown to be, Cody and Brandi Rhodes will forever be associated with the promotion even though they are no longer part of it.

For his part, Tony Khan has remained steadfast in his original remarks that he is grateful for what they provided for the company and it was difficult to see Cody and Brandi leave. Tony still wishes them the best moving forward.

“It was very sad to see Cody and Brandi leave AEW and I’ve gotten asked about it a number of times and I haven’t said much, but what I do have to say is positive and I really appreciate both of them and what they did for us as we got started and through the growth of the company and I’m wishing them the best,” Tony Khan said on the latest AEW media call ahead of AEW Revolution 2022.

Regarding not utilizing his rollover option for Cody’s deal, Tony revealed that he wanted to reach a larger deal with cody beyond the option years in Cody’s deal but ultimately, they couldn’t reach a deal.

“I don’t want to get too deep into it because a lot of this is personal between me and him but I tried to reach a longer agreement with him beyond what we had for the option years and, it sounded like at one point we were going to, honestly, and when we couldn’t settle on it, the last thing I want to do is keep somebody here that isn’t going to want to be here. It didn’t look like we were going to get a longer deal done and I would have loved to have done it and I have a lot of respect for him, but when we didn’t come to terms on that, it made it pretty clear where we were going to end up on things. That being said, I’ve said nothing but respectful stuff about Cody and I’ll continue to,” Tony said.
