Jeff Jarrett: There Was A Lot Of Chatter And Excitement At WWE SmackDown About The WRLD On GCW
It was a busy week for Jeff Jarrett as he appeared on the January 21 episode of WWE SmackDown, chatting up Shinsuke Nakamura and Rick Boogs in a backstage segment.
Jarrett hadn’t been on WWE television since 2019, where he did segments with Elias and worked backstage as a producer.
Speaking on his My World podcast, Jarrett reflected on his return to SmackDown.
“That kind of came out of nowhere. All of a sudden, it was a last minute deal, ‘hey, will you come down?’ My old buddy Shinsuke (Nakamura), got to be in a little deal with him, and Boogs. Me and Rick, we reminisced about the last time we had chatted. We’re both pickers and play guitar. That was fun. I got to reconnect with a lot of folks. Me and you and Mr. Bischoff got to have a little catering. It was good and great to see so many folks. A lot of changes, it goes without saying, a lot of changes in every department in WWE, across the board. There were some folks who are no longer with the company that I found out about. Change is good. It absolutely is at the very top of the list for success, you have to have change and turnover. It’s an unfortunate instance, but life happens. It was great to reconnect in so many ways. It was fun to do the pre-tape. I got serval texts right after it aired and they were like, ‘you’re not coming out?’ ‘No, I don’t think I’ll be in front of the live crowd.’ It was fun,” he said.
Two nights after his SmackDown appearance, Jarrett wrestled EFFY at The WRLD on GCW in the Hammerstein Ballroom.
According to Jarrett, there were those backstage at WWE SmackDown who were looking forward to the event.
“There were serval folks backstage saying, ‘Hey Jeff, we’re really excited about Sunday. We’re going to be watching. What do you think?’ I joked with some folks, ‘I don’t work small buildings in New York City, I only work the Garden.’ They were like, ‘Are you excited about going to Hammerstein?’ I had honestly never been in there. I came right after the Manhattan Center Raws. A lot of chatter backstage on Friday about it, which I thought was really cool,” he said.
Jarrett was victorious over EFFY in the bout at The WRLD on GCW, finishing him off with a guitar shot following by The Stroke with he guitar wrapped around EFFY’s neck.
