WWE NXT New Year’s Evil Results For 1/4/22 Breakker Challenges Ciampa For NXT Championship

– The show kicks off with a New Year’s Evil video package.
– NXT commentator Vic Joseph welcomes us to NXT New Year’s Evil; they come to us live from Orlando, Florida. Joseph then welcomes his broadcast colleague Wade Barrett.
NXT North American and Cruiserweight Championship Unification Match
Carmelo Hayes (North American Champion) ( w/ Trick Williams) vs. Roderick Strong (Cruiserweight Champion) ( w/ Malcolm Bivens)
Carmelo Hayes is out first, wearing a Roderick Strong Memorial Shirt. The bell rings with Carmelo Hayes getting the upper hand first with an arm-drag. Roderick Strong hits Hayes with multiple arm-drags. Next, Hayes hits Strong with a big chop in the ring’s corner. Strong delivers three massive chops on Hayes; Hayes exits the ring to retreat from Strong.
Hayes hits Strong with a springboard leg drop; Hayes goes for another springboard; however, Strong stops it. Hayes pushes Strong outside of the ring, hitting Strong with a DDT.
Roderick Strong gets back into the ring and delivers a massive clothesline to Carmelo Hayes. We head to our first picture-in-picture commercial break with Roderick Strong in control. During the break, Hayes hits Strong with a colossal springboard clothesline. Now, Hayes is in control and has Strong in a submission hold. Roderick Strong hits Hayes with a backbreaker, he goes for another one, but Hayes counters it and takes Strong down and locks in crossface. Hayes puts the Boston Crab on Strong, Strong eventually escapes.
Next, Strong hits Hayes with another backbreaker and the pin attempt; Hayes kicks out at two. Malcolm Bivens complains to the referee and says it was a slow count. Next, Roderick Strong nails Carmelo Hayes with a high angle slam; he goes for the pin again, but Hayes kicks out at two. Next, Hayes hits an inverted cutter on Strong. Carmelo goes for the cover; however, Roderick kicks out at two.
Roderick Strong and Carmelo Hayes are on the top rope, and Strong goes for the Avalanche X-Plex and hits it, but he got the worst of it. Hayes goes to the top rope and hits Strong with a flying leg drop. Hayes pins Strong to win; Hayes win the NXT Cruiserweight Championship to unify the titles.
Winner: Carmelo Hayes ( w/ Trick Williams)
– We go backstage to a segment with Tommaso Ciampa, and AJ Styles appears. Ciampa says to AJ, “you look like you’re ready for a fight.” AJ wishes Ciampa luck with his title defense.
– We get a preview for The Dusty Rhodes Tag-Team Classic. The men’s tournament will start in two weeks, and the women’s will begin in February.
– AJ Styles is out to cut his promo, and the crowd is chanting “AJ Styles,” and Styles says, “I have done a lot in my career, and that will never get old and, I appreciate it.” Styles says that he regretted not being on NXT when he started with the WWE. But, AJ says, “there is something special about this place.” He says the passion is what makes NXT go. The crowd chants “NXT, NXT,” and Styles says he will not let Grayson Waller ruin it for them.
Grayson Waller’s music hits, and he comes out to a considerable amount of boos. The crowd is chanting “asshole” to Waller. Waller brings up Styles to Omos and says that he got crushed by Omos. Waller says that Styles was thinking about him, and that’s why he lost to Omos. Styles says he’s never wrestled in NXT, and he’s in his gear, and all they need is a ref. Waller says that it is not happening tonight. Styles tells Waller to grow a pair.
Waller says he will wrestle against Styles in next week’s NXT main event. AJ is about to go for the Phenomenal Forearm, but Waller rolls out of the ring.
– We get a promo from Pete Dunne, and he shows that his arm is wrapped up and says that he will rip Tony D’Angelo’s arm. Dunne then says that he will take care of D’Angelo on NXT next week.
– We come back and see Kayden Carter and Kacy Catanzaro working out, Amari Miller approaches, and they talk about their plans in 2022. Persia Perrotta and Indi Hartwell challenge all three women; Hartwell says they need to stop with the handicap matches. They ask Tiffany Stratton to the team, and she declines, so they ask the next person they see, Wendy Choo, and ask her if she will team with Perrotta and Hartwell.
Six-Man Tag-Team Match
MSK & Riddle vs. Imperium
Nash Carter and Marcel Barthel begin the match, both men counter each other multiple times, and nobody gets the upper hand until Fabian Aichner gets the blind tag. Aichner takes out Carter; Carter makes it back up and makes it over to Wes Lee for the tag. Wes Lee tags Matt Riddle, and Aichner glances over at WALTER, and Aichner tags him in. WALTER hits Riddle with a few shots and takes him down quickly.
Riddle eventually recovers and tags Wes Lee. Lee and Carter enter the ring and double-team Fabian Aichner. WALTER enters the ring, and he takes out MSK as we go to a commercial break with WALTER stretching out Nash Carter.
We return with Nash Carter hitting Marcel Barthel with a big knee strike. Carter attempts to get to his partners, but he cannot make it over to them. Aichner tags in WALTER; WALTER gets to Carter before tagging one of his partners. Carter escapes WALTER’s grasp and makes it to Riddle for the hot tag. Riddle takes control, and he hits WALTER with a senton. We see MSK and Riddle dive and take out Imperium.
The action goes back into the ring with Riddle hitting WALTER with a German suplex. Riddle is getting ready to go for the RKO; he then looks behind him and sees MSK getting attacked. WALTER grabs Riddle and hits him with a Powerbomb.
WALTER tags in Aichner, and he beats down Riddle. MSK enters the ring and takes out Aichner and Barthel. Riddle hits WALTER with a German suplex and hits Barthel with an RKO. Riddle then pins him to get the victory.
Winners: MSK & Riddle
– McKenzie Mitchell is backstage with Joe Gacy and Harland. Mitchell wants to ask Harland a question, but Gacy begins talking and says he and Harland wish to be part of the Dusty Classic.
– We see Mandy Rose arriving at the facility in a helicopter.
– We return from a commercial break with McKenzie Mitchell and Elektra Lopez. Mitchell asks Lopez what is going on with her and Xyon Quinn. Lopez says that we will have Santos Escobar vs. Xyon Quinn next week, and the winner will leave with her.
NXT Women’s Championship Triple Threat Match
Raquel Gonzalez vs. Cora Jade vs. Mandy Rose (C)
The match begins with Raquel Gonzalez taking out Cora Jade with a big right hand. Gonzalez goes right at Mandy Rose and gets the upper hand. Jade gets back up and pushes Gonzalez over the top rope. Rose and Jade are fighting outside the ring; Gonzalez runs up and hits Mandy Rose with a big boot. Jade then hits Raquel Gonzalez with a senton.
Finally, the action goes back into the ring. Jade goes for the pin attempt, and we see Gonzalez breaking it up. Gonzalez has Mandy Rose and Cora Jade on her shoulders and hits a Samoan Drop. We go to a picture-in-picture commercial break with Raquel Gonzalez hitting Mandy Rose with a Singapore cane.
We see Rose using the cane during the break, and she hits Jade with it. Mandy Rose then has a leg lock on Cora; Cora gets out of it and quickly goes for a pin attempt; however, Gonzalez breaks it up. Jade takes Raquel Gonzalez and Mandy Rose with a hurricanrana to each of them. Gonzalez recovers and tosses Jade over the top rope, and Jade lands hard. Rose tries to leave ringside, Gonzalez chases her down and brings her back into the ring. Gonzalez begins laying in some shots on Mandy Rose.
Mandy Rose goes for a knee strike; however, Gonzalez slams Rose down and attempt to go for the pin, and Jade comes flying in, breaking the pin. Gonzalez is livid, and she throws Gonzalez over the top rope. Jade smiles and walks over to Rose; Rose rolls up Jade to win and retain her NXT Women’s Championship.
Winner and still NXT Women’s Champion: Mandy Rose
– Boa vignette airs
– Matt Riddle says goodbye to MSK and says he will see them later. Then, the Creed Brothers walk up to MSK and say they will be in The Dusty Rhodes Classic.
– Andre Chase comes out for a “Teachable Moment.” Chase says that a student last week put their life on the line for him. He says he is glad that Harland did not throw his student off the roof.
Chase says he wants to honor the student. So Chase gives the student a full scholarship. Von Wagner comes out to interrupt the promo.
Wagner says that he hears the boos, and he sees the comment. Wagner says he only needs to be liked by the people who matter. He then tells people in the crowd and Andre Chase that they do not matter. Von Wagner then takes out the same student that was attacked last week by Harland.
– We see Von Wagner getting escorted out of the building. He comes across Roderick Strong and says that Strong got his ass kicked. Ivy Nile stares him down.
– We get a Cameron Grimes vignette airs and says that in 2022 he will be chasing gold.
– NXT Commentator announces matches we will see on next week’s NXT. AJ Styles vs. Grayson Waller, Santos Escobar vs. Xyon Quinn, and Tony D’Angelo vs. Pete Dunne, and Solo Sikoa vs. Boa
NXT Championship
Bron Breakker vs. Tommaso Ciampa (C)
Tommaso Ciampa and Bron Breakker begin things with a collar-and-elbow tie-up. They tie up again, and Ciampa takes a cheap shot at Breakker. Ciampa gets some offense in; however, Breakker counters and hits Ciampa with a suplex. Ciampa leaves the ring for a few seconds, Ciampa comes back into the ring, and Breakker hits him with another suplex.
Breakker begins working on the back of Ciampa, but Ciampa starts mounting a comeback and hitting Breakker with multiple shots. First, Breakker hits Ciampa with a big lariat, but we see Ciampa back up and take Breakker out with a dropkick. Next, Ciampa hits Breakker with a running knee strike and then hits Breakker with a corkscrew plancha.
Ciampa has a sleeper hold on Breakker; however, Breaker falls back and takes out Ciampa. Ciampa begins running the ropes, and we see Breakker catch him and hit Ciampa with a Powerbomb. Breakker and Ciampa are on the top rope; Ciampa escapes before Breakker hits him.
Ciampa attempts to hit the Fairytale Ending; Breakker counters and hits Ciampa with a spinebuster and standing moonsault. Breakker goes to the top rope; however, he hesitates, and Ciampa sends him over on the rope. Ciampa gets a few strikes in on Breakker, Ciampa goes running the ropes, but he is met with a spear. Ciampa is busted open.
Breakker hits Ciampa with the Frankensteiner, Breakker goes for the pin, but Ciampa kicks out. Breakker tries to end it, but Ciampa counters and hits Willow’s Bell. Ciampa goes for the pin, but Breakker kicks out at two.
Ciampa exits the ring and exposes the concrete underneath the mat. Breakker gets out, and Alabama Slams Ciampa through the commentary table. Breakker goes the slam and then pin; Ciampa grabs the rope and uses the ropes, and hits Breakker in the groin. Ciampa gets Breakker in the ring and hits Breakker with the Fairytale Ending. Ciampa goes for the cover, and Breakker kicks out at two. Ciampa is shocked, Ciampa brings him over to the corner, and they are on the ropes. Breakker pushes Ciampa off the ropes and hits the Bulldog. Bron Breakker then locks in The Steiner Recliner, Ciampa taps out, and we have a new NXT Champion. Before taking the belt from the referee, Bron Breakker looks back at Ciampa, and Ciampa nods in approval. The show goes off the air with the new face of NXT celebrating.
