Anthony Johnson Addresses Rumors Of The Blackzilians Demise

Anthony Johnson is waiting for UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier to heal up from an injury before they fight for the gold in 2017.

However, while Johnson is waiting for the champion to recover, there is something else that he is a part of that may be falling apart and not recovering too well — the Blackzilians fight team.

“Whatever you guys are seeing in the media, and the word on the street, some of it could be true, some of it could be lie, but somewhere in the middle is the truth,” Johnson said backstage at UFC 206. “I’ll say that and I’ll never not be a Blackzilian.”

One reason behind the potential demise of the fight team are alleged financial woes of team owner Glenn Robinson. Johnson says he’s more concerned about his own finances.

“I’ve got my own bills, bro,” Johnson said. “That stuff is up to Glenn. Glenn and I are close, but I don’t get into his financial business or personal business.”

Johnson also believes that whether or not the Blackzilians are a team in 2017 and beyond, it will not keep the core of the team from breaking apart.

“We’ll do our thing,” he said. “Either way, I’m fine. Even if the team just completely exploded and got destroyed and was never around, I’m fine. I’ve have my guys. I have my training partners. I have the money to keep going, so I’m good.”

Johnson was supposed to compete at UFC 206 before Daniel Cormier was sidelined with a knee injury. The bout with Cormier has yet to be rescheduled.
