Bobby Lashley On The Hurt Business Splitting: It Hurt My Heart

After carrying much of WWE Raw through the pandemic era, The Hurt Business was split just weeks before WrestleMania 37.

On-screen, Bobby Lashley and MVP weren’t happy with Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin failing to get the job done, leading to Lashley kicking them out of the group. Lashley then defeated both men in subsequent matches.

Off-screen, no one seemed pleased with the group splitting after receiving praise throughout their run.

“It hurt my heart, to tell you the truth,” Lashley told Ryan Satin on Out of Character. “It was something very special. In the wrestling business, it’s very seldom that really special things come together and you see so many people get behind it. Ultimately, business is business. Originally, the Hurt Business was started by MVP and myself. We brought people on that deserved a chance. They took it and ran with it, but the Hurt Business is not over. We’re just making some adjustments. In the next few weeks, we’ll see how those adjustments pan out.”

Fightful Select reported on April 2 that Vince McMahon made the decision to split the Hurt Business, even after MVP and Lashley met with him about the decision.

Lashley didn’t need Alexander and Benjamin at WrestleMania 37 as he successfully defended his WWE Championship against Drew McIntyre.
