Paul Wight Hopes To Turn Heel In AEW And Work Against Darby Allin
Paul Wight is hoping for at least one heel turn in All Elite Wrestling.
Paul Wight, the former Big Show in WWE, recently debuted in AEW. Although he is primarily going to be an announcer on AEW Dark: Elevation, Wight will be wrestling at some point during his tenure with the company.
Speaking on a media scrum after AEW Revolution, Wight explained the difference between this new locker room and the locker room in WWE and why he’s excited to lace his boots once again.
“The atmosphere is completely different. I think anytime you start over somewhere new, it’s always going to be refreshing, but even more so here. The one thing that is different here that I really enjoy is the support and the fight that the talent has over here for respect and recognition and the grind. That’s the heart of professional wrestling. You want a locker room that it’s not guys stepping on each other’s toes, cutting each other’s throat to get a position. Everybody’s trying to get over and everybody is trying to make the best possible product for the fans. That kind of environment I thrive on and I love this environment.I haven’t seen a lot of positive energy in a long, long, long time. So, for me to come over — and I’ve heard the stories from some of the guys, I’ve heard the stories from Jericho about how nice it was here and I talked to Cody, and Billy Gunn, and people I’ve known for a long time that said, ‘it’s different over here, Paul. It’s different,’ and to come over here and actually see that, see that support, and see the attitude in the locker room it’s so different. It’s like getting a blood transfusion. I feel like a young kid all over again. I can’t wait to get out there and do my job and lace up my boots and get to perform with these athletes and get to know them.”
Paul noted that he’s hoping to fight the current TNT Champion, Darby Allin, saying that he hopes he turns heel and gets to have that match.
“Darby is actually on my list. One day, hopefully, I get to work with him. You know me, I’ve had more turns than NASCAR so hopefully, by then, I’ll be a heel and it’ll be a lot of fun.”
Thus far, Paul has only appeared in the promotion to reveal a major signing with the company that turned out to be Christian Cage. Learn more about that signing here.
