Yoel Romero Believes Fans Should Educate Themselves About USADA
Yoel Romero landed a huge victory at this weekend's UFC 205, first fight since the fighter was exonerated an out of competition drug test failure from the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).
Romero feels that the MMA fans need to start educating themselves about USADA, because he feels that MMA fans are lacking knowledge when it comes to the drug testing program.
"It bothers me that the fans, that people won't try or intend to try to learn a little bit more," Romero told MMA Fighting. "It does bother me."
Romero believes that those who want to comment on USADA failures need to understand everything about it, just like anything else in this world. Romero's UFC 205 opponent Chris Weidman was also outspoken about Romero's USADA history
"If you're going to make comments on economy, study economy," Romero said. "If you're gonna make comments on world history, make sure you learn world history. If you're gonna save lives and be a doctor, you need to study medicine. Then, you will be able to make comments on economy, on medicine, and on world history. In other words, it's not what they teach you. It's what you want to see. USADA can show and teach, UFC can show and teach the fans, but what do the fan want to see? Never was it talked about steroids when USADA gave out their [press release]."
Romero failed a USADA test earlier this year, before it was determined that he ingested a tainted supplement. Romero was given a reduced six-month suspension before returning to action. It's worth noting that Romero has been tested 15 times this year alone.
