Report: Kamaru Usman vs. Gilbert Burns Off UFC 256

UFC 256 is going to need a new main event because UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman vs. Gilbert Burns has been pulled from the card.

Ariel Helwani of ESPN first reported the news. It was reportedly Usman who was the cause for the bout cancellation, as the champion needed more time off to recover from a title defense against Jorge Masvidal at UFC 251. The report from Helwani also states that the title bout could be rescheduled for January or February of 2021, but nothing is set in stone at this time.

A women’s featherweight title bout between champion Amanda Nunes and Megan Anderson, which is the co-main event of the show, could be moved to the main event position, but no word has been given at this time as to what the new main event is.

UFC 256 takes place on Saturday, December 12 from a location to be announced and with a main event to be announced. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+ pay-per-view.
