Report: Sergio Pettis vs. Ricky Bandejas Headlines Bellator 242

A bantamweight division attraction will headline Bellator 242 as Sergio Pettis is in action against Ricky Bandejas.

Combate first reported the bout, while Ariel Helwani of ESPN reported that the fight would be the main event of the show.

Pettis (19-5-0) is undefeated thus far under the Bellator MMA banner, with that win coming over Alfred Khashakyan at Bellator 238. Pettis also earned nine wins in the UFC, with notable victories coming over Will Campuzano, Chris Cariaso, John Moraga, Brandon Moreno and Joseph Benavidez. Pettis has picked up nineteen wins as a professional MMA fighter and twelve of them came by way of decision.

Bandejas (13-3-0) has won three of five in Bellator MMA competition, with those wins coming over James Gallagher, Ahmet Kayretli and Frans Mlambo. Bandejas is a former CFFC Bantamweight Champion, but he would relinquish the title upon signing with Bellator MMA. Bandejas also fought eight times as an amateur MMA competitor, with one of those bouts coming against UFC veteran Shane Burgos.

Other bouts announced for the card, according to Helwani, are Aaron Pico vs. Solo Hatley and Jordan Mein vs. Jason Jackson. Helwani’s report also started that Juan Archuleta and Patrick Mix were originally set to headline for the vacant bantamweight title untiil Archuleta suffered an injury. 

Bellator 242 takes place on Friday, July 24 from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut with Sergio Pettis and Ricky Bandejas headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, while broadcast plans have yet to be revealed.
