Report: Thiago Santos vs. Glover Teixeira Headlines September 12 UFC Card
A light heavyweight division attraction will headline the recently announced UFC card on September 12 as #2 Thiago Santos faces #5 Glover Teixeira.
Brett Okamoto of ESPN first reported the main event encounter.
Santos (21-7-0) is competing for the first time since getting double knee surgery, which came after a loss to UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones at UFC 239. Santos has previously headlined three UFC cards, earning a 2-1-0 record in those previous main event encounters. Santos has picked up twenty one wins as a professional MMA fighter and fifteen of them came by way of KO/TKO.
Teixeira (31-7-0) enters the contest riding a four fight winning streak, with those wins coming over Karl Roberson, Ion Cutelaba, Nikita Krylov and Anthony Smith. Teixeira has previously challenged for the UFC Light Heavyweight Title, losing to Jon Jones by decision at UFC 172. Teixeira hasn’t suffered a defeat in over four years, with that last loss coming to Corey Anderson at UFC Fight Night Hamburg.
UFC Fight Night: Santos vs. Teixeira takes place on Saturday, September 12 from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada with Thiago Santos and Glover Teixeira headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, while broadcast plans have yet to be announced.
