Dana White Says Henry Cejudo Isn’t Getting A Featherweight Title Shot
Josh Emmett defeated Shane Burgos by unanimous decision in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night: Blaydes vs. Volkov, which led to the following tweet from Cejudo after that bout:
Fight of the year candidate. Beautiful to see these two artists go to work in MY weight class #UFCVegas3
— Henry Cejudo (@HenryCejudo) June 21, 2020
Shortly after that tweet, UFC President Dana White was asked about Cejudo potentially getting a featherweight title bout and that idea was quickly shot down.
“He’s retired,” White said (via Jed Meshew of MMA Fighting). “I just did another interview where people are asking me about other retired guys. These guys are retired. I’m not even thinking about any of those guys. They’re retired. There are so many kids right now that are here, that want to fight. Those are the people that I’m focused on.”
If Cejudo got the opportunity to challenge for the featherweight title, it would’ve given him the chance to become the first UFC fighter in the promotion’s history to win three titles in three different weight classes.
